It has been another great weekend here in Ireland! On Friday, after recovering from Thanksgiving food comas, I decided to be a little productive. I walked from the city back to UCD in the morning stopping at the Cracked Nut to enjoy some coffee outside. The sun was just coming up as the streets buzzed around me. I love taking the route down Camden Street back to UCD because it’s always so full of life! (And they have a lot of coffee shops J) I got back right before the torrential downpour, and of course it was raining because it always rains on the days I do laundry. After a second Thanksgiving lunch with Jena and Morgan and finishing my laundry, I headed back to Conner’s apartment for an Irish holiday tradition. We spent Friday night watching The Late Late Toy Show with Paul. It was two and a half hours of singing, Christmas cheer, and a show casing of children’s toys. It was interesting, but we got plenty of laughing in.
On Saturday, Paul, Conner, and I went to Christmas on the square and visited a few pop up shops, food, and craft shows. Then we had lunch at Lemon, where I had a meal of champions, aka, a super supreme waffle with ice cream, strawberries, bananas, and nutella! It was amazing. After lunch, we waited out the rest of the rain at Conner’s apartment before going to the I Believe Christmas markets down on the docks. There were booths everywhere with crafts and food and warm drinks. There were the most beautiful Christmas decorations, and everyone that knows me, knows how much I love Christmas lights!
We then went back to Paul’s house to watch Purdue football for the Old Oaken Bucket game. They had a terrible season and I didn’t expect to win, but it still sucks that Purdue didn’t pull it together for this one game. On the bright side, we could lose for the next 30 years straight and still be ahead of them in the record. After that game we watched the movie Trainwreck while waiting for Purdue basketball at midnight. I’m so excited for our basketball season and it was so great to watch them start 6-0 (and all the way from Ireland!)
Sunday, after Paul's mom made us a delicious breakfast, we were able to go to the horse race weekend at Fairyhouse Racecourse. It started rainy and gloomy but turned into a beautiful day over the seven races. We enjoyed some Guinness while watching such beautiful animals race through the course. I had never been to the races before and it was such a fun experience. I think I have almost hit all the “must dos” while in Ireland!
Leaving for Amsterdam this morning to meet Morgan and Jena! Netherlands, here I come.
