It has been a very long and exhausting week here in Dublin with exams having rolled around and the weather being temperamental. I had fought getting fully sick the whole semester up until now but have come down with a really disruptive cold. I spent Monday and Tuesday studying for my two finals on Wednesday. Each of my mornings was spent with my papers scattered at Third Space coffee shop with a chai latte and my favorite breakfast of French toast with avocado, bacon, and egg. Paula, Julia, and Melanie all have my order down at this point from the many times I come in to work on my school work. Then in the afternoons my desk at UCD was cluttered with tissues and cough drops, I downed multiple cups of coffee and peppermint tea, and I hardly left my room. Getting sick always happens around the most stressful times, right? (It is even more pressure here as final exams are worth 50-70 percent of the entire course grade!) But I managed to focus enough through the sick and felt confident in both exams I took at 9 am and 6 pm on Wednesday. I even managed to walk to the exam location at the RDS about 30 minutes from campus and back without hitting any of the bad rainy parts of the day! I call that a win here in Ireland. (and the street was lit with Christmas lights on my walk back, which is another plus!)
After I finished my exams, I went in to meet Conner and he surprised me with Nutella cheesecake, a new Star Wars sweatshirt, and some fuzzy socks to make me feel better after a long few days. He really knows the way to my heart! On Thursday I slept in to try and get a little better, but rest doesn’t seem to be working on this cold! I’ve been spending a lot of time with my Netflix account. Elf, Supernatural, and How to Get Away With Murder were among the shows and movies I’ve invested my sick time in.
Thursday afternoon I was able to meet up with a fellow Indiana native from none other than Bedford, Indiana. My dad’s high school football coach, David Cox (who also played for the Buffalo Bills), has a daughter who lives here in Ireland. Conner and I met Lindsey and her husband, Mike, for lunch at Yamamori Sushi down near the Liffey River. We had an excellent meal and enjoyed getting to know each other while sharing our Purdue experiences and our times in Bedford. She went to BNL and did her undergrad at Purdue before coming to vet school at UCD. She met her husband, who is from Galway, and never left Ireland. They have an awesome story and are the sweetest couple! I can’t wait to keep in touch. (She even mentioned that we should try to get jobs over here, which is definitely something Conner and I would like to look into!)
Last night, Conner and I watched Ratatouille to stay in from the rain before I went to bed early trying to get rid of this cold. I woke up this morning and it is still lingering but the sun is shining for now, and it’s a new day full of opportunities! It’s the Friday of the last weekend of my semester in Ireland and no cold can slow me down! :)
